There are well over 1,000 different plants that can adversely affect dogs and cats, according to the ASPCA. You can find the full list at the ASPCA website. While that’s a huge list, and quite worrisome, we’ve narrowed it down to 21 green suspects that are likely to cause harm if your pet were to eat them.

Aloe Vera

Amaryllis
(slightly toxic to dogs and cats)

Azalea/Rhododendron
(very toxic to dogs and cats)

Baby’s Breath
(toxic to both dogs and cats)

Begonia
(toxic to dogs and cats)

Carnations
(slightly toxic to dogs and cats)

Chrysanthemum
(slightly toxic to dogs and cats)

Cyclamen
(toxic to dogs and cats)

Daffodil
(toxic to dogs and cats)

Gladiola
(the bulb is toxic to dogs and cats)

Hosta

Ivy

Lilies

Similar to humans, there’s a poison control center phone number for pets. If you think your pet ate something poisonous and is having an adverse reaction, call 888-426-4435. They’ll help you decide what action you should take to help your pet.

Coastal Tip: If your dog continually craves vegetation, Cornell University’s animal science department suggests adding brand flakes to the dog’s food.
